Annual North-South Football Game

The annual football game between crosstown rivals Great Neck North and Great Neck South occurred on Oct. 3. The Great Neck South Rebels were defeated by the Great Neck North Blazers by a final score of 18-0.
This was the fourth loss in a row for South. This game was the Blazers’ first win of the season after losing three straight.
After beating the Blazers in last year’s season finale, the Rebels failed to score in this year’s rivalry contest. The Rebels’ cheer team also made the trip to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, where the game took place, to support the football team.
“We need to get better and execute faster,” said running back senior Lance Kim. “We tend to turn the ball over at inopportune times.”
Injuries and player absences present a persistent problem for the team.
“Overall our defense was better than it’s been, but on offense, we just have to keep practicing and improving,” said quarterback junior Chris Kaczynski. “North has a good team this year and after that game, it was clear they just wanted [to win] a little bit more than us.”
The Rebels concluded their season on Oct. 31.
