Turning Point USA (TPUSA) is a new club offered here at South. TPUSA is a non-profit organization founded in 2012 whose mission is to “identify, educate, and organize students to promote the principles of freedom and limited government,” explained Ms. Schwartz, the club advisor for TPUSA.

Ms. Schwartz also stated, “This club was made to discuss what’s happening in the world right now from different points of view.”At meetings, members are able to showcase their thoughts on current events such as the justification of Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the national anthem or the differences between the motives of the media and those of the viewers. Members are encouraged to debate with each other, giving each other insight into their perspectives on the topics. They will also be holding meetings with special guests, in the future.

The club at our school has just been officially recognized as a chapter on the national level. Turning Point USA chapters educate students about the importance of limited government, free markets, and capitalism.

According to club president Joshua Raziyev, they plan to host a debate in the choral room between three liberals and three conservatives. This debate will be open to the student body to attend and will be moderated. If you have an interest in politics, make sure to stop by room 424 on Monday afternoon to join.
